As the rules for Hanningfield allows no more than 2 people in a boat we were going to be fishing off the bank.
Waders on, rods set up, bad on my shoulder, off we set along the bank towards the inlet area. We used different approaches, one on nymphs, one on blobs and one spinning.
We moved into an area where we wouldn’t affect anyone else and got in the water up to our waists. Aaron started spinning with Mepps, Jack was on 2 nymphs fished 4 feet apart and I was on 2 large flies to look like small fish, fished 3 feet apart.
I missed 3 takes, Jack hooked a nice trout of 2lb5oz that wrecked the fly, and missed another 2 takes, while Aaron struggled to get a take. We worked hard for several hours, chopping and changing flies and spinners to see if we could work a take, but it was a tough day at the office. Plenty of sun burn on our faces was all we had to show apart from Jack’s solitary trout.
Hard work but a really good day out and the lads loved it.
