Not the best day we could have had really but it's better than being at work :)
We headed over to Middlemead and did a drift towards the Pumping Tower, with the wind howling in the drift was rather faster than we would have liked. Because of this we had to use a Drogue to slow the boat down.
It wasn't long and I got a sharp tug, missing the bite by a mile!!!! Jonathon was getting the odd tug too, again, having trouble hitting the bites.
Eventually I struck into something solid and it tore off like a dervish. A powerful fight ensued with the fish charging around and jumping regularly. We were starting to get very close to the bank, and not wanting to run aground I put a lot of pressure on the fish to get it in.....I pulled the hook out!!!!!
Well...that's fishing for you. We motored back out to start the drift again and I was soon into another Trout. Exactly the same thing happened, a strong fight, getting close to the net...hook pulled out!!!!!
Now this was getting silly!!
Eventually I struck into a Trout and managed to keep it on the hook, soon having it in the net. Jonathon sorted the fish out while I raced to get the engine started to stop us crashing into the bank.
Between us we must have had over 30 takes but they were just lightening fast tugs then gone. These were the only 3 fish hooked and only the one landed.
Not one of our best days to be fair.
During the day we had the opportunity to try out several different flies, I put on a Tubeology Olive on a 14lb Flourocarbon leader with a White Wooly Bugger just up from it. The Olive took several hits, but like on the Buzzers, it seemed we were destined not to hook them cleanly.
We will be back soon to try again that's for sure
