This year we did 4 days at Puddledock Farm and 2 days at Chigboro. Puddledock is a venue we use for a lot of coaching events as they have great facilities, Chigboro is a new venue for us to use and we fished 2 ponds that normally don’t get fished.
We normally get flooded with people wanting to have a go, but the Olympics have had a knock on effect this year with numbers being well down. Saying that, we still had over 200 people come along to learn to fish.
Nash Fish Frenzy supplied me with ground bait, pellets and squidgees for the events.
Everyone had a fantastic time with loads of fish getting caught. First day at Puddledock and the weather was all over the place, hot one moment, raining the next. Temperature was up and down like a yo yo.
Everybody was getting into a few fish, but it was rather slow compared to how this venue normally fishes. I went to Fish Frenzy Sticky Pellets with White Chocolate Sqidgee Pellets, cast tight to the island and as I set the rod in the rest it was nearly wrenched out of my hands. Over the next 3 hours the youngsters had a fantastic time with loads of fish coming to these baits. I hid the White Chocolate Pellets from the other coaches and was going to keep them to myself, but they found my stash and swiped them!!!
Later in the day when the water had warmed up we found the Carp were all mid water, this called for a Pellet Waggler approach. This is where the Monster Crab pellets came in to their own. 6mm pellet on a bait band fished 12” under the surface spraying 3 or 4 pellets over the top every 30 seconds being the most successful method and bait.
There wasn’t anything huge caught during the sessions, but they caught some lovely fish up to 9lb. If that is your first fish then it’s not a bad start to angling.
I used the Injuicers to flavour the sticky pellets, mixing 5mm with the water to add to the pellets. This made a big difference when the fishing was a little difficult, keeping the fish coming to the net on a regular basis.
Over the 4 days though we caught on squidgee boilies Tutti Frutti, Strawberry & Halibut and squidgee pellets Pineapple, Halibut, White Chocolate and Monster Crab.
