My fishing is mostly lakes but over the last couple of years I have got into rivers a lot more. We lost most of last winter to floods, snow and more floods so it was a very short season. I normally meet up with a couple of mates during the winter to get some fishing together on deserted venues, but all that went out of the window with the worst spell of weather I can remember for years.
A friend of mine, Martin Porter, taught me how to use a centrepin and I love getting out on the rivers trotting a float for Grayling, Chub, Roach and Perch. The peace and tranquility of a river which you can’t get on a commercial lake, truly wild fish, getting close to nature in a way that can’t be done on a lake when there are 100 people milling about.
Another challenge this year is to get time to fish with my friends and get Martin into a 30lb+ Carp and a 40lb + Catfish. That should pull his string a bit!!!
Enough rambling for now, I have to get ready to go fishing :)
