Learn to Fish - 27th October 2011
Thursday 27th October and we are at Puddledock Farm Fishery with 9 youngsters.
After the success of the Taster Sessions during the summer we had a group of lads wanting to take things a little further, so we booked a day at Puddledock on Road Lake. Martin Roessler and Anna Santoro wer working with me on the day making sure the kids were looked after and everything ran smoothly.
We met at the cafe at 9.30 and after a little chat about safety we were soon on the lake. Here we went over setting up a rod and reel correctly, choosing a float appropriate for the job, shotting correctly, plumbing up and using good knots.
The lads were soon fishing and a few fish were getting caught, Roach, Rudd, Bream and Carp. This gave us the chance to teach them safe fish handling and how to unhook the fish correctly, we also went over using a landing net correctly and how to photograph fish.
The weather was pretty poor with bands of rain coming in, eventually settling into a steady downpour. This didn't seem to stop the fish too much but was pretty uncomfortable for the lads. It finally stopped half hour before we packed up at 4pm.
All the lads did really well and seemed to enjoy the day, they all caught a few fish with the best of the day being a 12lb Common Carp.
